Menopause Rebirth: Why I Started This Podcast and This Movement

I never planned to become known as the menopause doctor. Life has a way of guiding us toward purpose.

When I began experiencing menopause myself, I expected answers. I expected that as a physician I would understand what was happening in my body, and I expected the healthcare system to provide support. What I found instead was silence. Even with my medical training, I struggled to find resources that spoke directly to my symptoms, my culture, and my lived experience as a Jamaican woman.

The hot flashes came without warning and disrupted my sleep. The anxiety affected my ability to focus. My skin and hair changed, and my body felt unfamiliar. I was suffering, and I was searching. That search showed me something much larger than my own struggle. Women in Jamaica and across the Caribbean were facing the same questions and the same silence.

At that moment, I made a decision. If the resources and community I needed did not exist, I would create them. If women in Jamaica could not find culturally relevant guidance, I would provide it. If the silence around menopause continued, I would break it. This is how the Menopause Rebirth Movement was born.

Why Jamaica, Why Now

Menopause affects every woman either directly or through someone she loves. Despite this reality, menopause remains one of the least discussed stages of life in Jamaica and across the Caribbean. We dismiss the symptoms as stress or we call them signs of age. Cultural strength often requires Jamaican women to push through discomfort and to stay silent in the face of pain.

That silence has a cost. It costs women their confidence. It costs families their stability. It costs workplaces their productivity. It costs our healthcare system when untreated symptoms lead to larger complications.

Jamaica is the right place to begin this movement. Jamaican women are the backbone of our communities. Strength should never mean silent suffering. If we can change the conversation here, we can create a blueprint for the Caribbean and the wider diaspora.

Why a Podcast

I created the Menopause Rebirth Podcast to give women a voice and a space where their experiences are recognised. A podcast allows us to connect in an intimate way. It invites listeners to lean in, to hear real stories, and to realise they are not alone.

This podcast is not only about medical facts. It is about real conversations, unfiltered truths, and cultural context that matters. It is the sisterhood I wish I had when I was searching for support.

In Episode 1, I share my own journey through menopause. I explain why the silence almost broke me, why I believe menopause should be reframed as transformation, and why this stage of life can open new possibilities for women in Jamaica and beyond.

Why Rebirth

I chose the word Rebirth because that is what menopause gave me. My experience forced me to stop, to reflect, and to rebuild my health and identity. I discovered that menopause is not a decline but a transition. It is the beginning of a new chapter that can be filled with wisdom, freedom, and renewed strength.

The Menopause Rebirth Movement exists to help every woman discover that possibility. Menopause is not an ending. It is a chance to step into a new season of life with confidence.

The Bigger Vision

The Menopause Rebirth Movement is about more than awareness. It is about action.

  • Changing the narrative: reframing menopause from decline to empowerment.
  • Equipping women: with knowledge, tools, and cultural relevance.
  • Shaping workplaces: so organisations understand menopause as a factor in productivity and wellbeing.
  • Building community: where women can laugh, share, and learn without shame.

When women thrive, families thrive. When families thrive, nations are transformed.
